Hard vs. Hardly

Learn the difference between HARD and HARDLY.

HARD is an adjective with various meanings:
➡ Yesterday’s exam was HARD (diffcult)
➡ A Diamond is very HARD (solid/firm)
➡ Carpentry is HARD work (requires much effort)

HARD is an adverb with various meanings:
➡ My stundets work very HARD (using effort)
➡ Look! It’s raining HARD (with much force)

hard

HARDLY is an adverb. With various meanings
➡ I HARDLY slept last night (I scarcely slept)
➡ Joe HARDLY worked today (He barely worked)
